- Be obvious – Know what the point is for your blog and let everyone else know too. It won’t be as easy for people to understand that your blog is about cars if you name it ‘Buttons and Bows’. No matter what your topic is, pick a title and website name that goes with it. An exact match is not necessary, but something fairly logical is a good idea.
- Match – If your topic is about cars, for heaven’s sake do not pick a background with computers or flowers! The background or theme for your site is the first visual indicator of your topic. You can choose a general one, like plain white or beige, but if you do go for the more customized backgrounds, don’t go crazy. Make it fit.
- Pictures, pictures, pictures – How many times can I say this? People are visual creatures and need photos to stay interested. If all you’ve got is text, then you are already losing your readers. Make it bright, make it right, and make it visual!
- Clear – Make your blog easy to read, easy to move around in, and simple to understand. No one wants to chop through garbage to get to the real stuff. That goes for ads too. Yes, you may want to monetize your site, but do it right. Don’t overwhelm readers with ads or they’ll become ex-readers before you can say adios, amigo!
- Interact – You are not an island, and neither is your blog. If you want people to pay attention to you, then you need to make the first move. Don’t be a Wordpress wallflower. Get out there and comment on other blogs with similar topics. If you do a good job, you’ll get followers and new readers in droves by this method.
